Residence: Date: 1699
Place: Pen y Bryn, Eglwysbach
Burial: Date: 1 Mar 1707
Place: Eglwysbach, Denbighshire
Individual Note:
We know very little about Roger other than that he was the householderof Pen Y Bryn in 1699 according to the Local Historian notes which are extracted from a work by Edward Lhwyd. The notes record his death as being 1st of March 1706/7 which agrees with a PR entry of 1707. There is no record of a baptism or marriage of Roger Holland in the PR and I have not come across any mention of him in any other data sources. Although it is most likely that he was the son of William, which is how he came into possession of Pen Y Bryn, it is by no means proven.

Occupation: High Sheriff of Anglsey
Date: 1621
Occupation: MP for Anglesey
Date: 1601
Individual Note:
He is probably the ‘Thomas Holland, of co. Anglesea, gent., S. EdmundHall, matric. 3 Nov., 1593, aged 16,’ mentioned in Foster, Alumni Oxon., and who subsequently was admitted to Lincoln's Inn, 28 Feb.1594/5. He was returned as M.P. for Anglesey in Oct. 1601, and served as sheriff in 1609, 1622, and 1640. He is frequently mentioned as captain of the trained bands of the hundred of Dindaethwy. There is no positive information about his knighthood, but it is believed he was so honoured about 1621-2. He succeeded in obtaining for the family a lease of the other moiety of the township of Ysgeifiog, with the mining rights appertaining thereto. He d. 1643 or 1644, unmarried, and was succeeded by his nephew OWEN, a son of Owen (Sir Thomas's brother)

Baptism: Date: 22 Sep 1655

Burial: Date: 25 Jul 1719
Place: Eglwysbach, Denbighshire
Individual Note:
The reasoning for attributing this burial to Thomas son of Robert & Elin was that the earlier burial of a Thomas Holland in 1697 would be more likely to be attributable to Thomas ap Owen & Margaret Davies of Pen Y Bryn. This Thomas would probably been born before Humphrey who we know was the incumbent of Bryn Y Fran in 1699 & therefore had Thomas been alive then he would have had a greater entitlement due to his earlier birth. This leaves Thomas ap Robert as the only contenderfor the 1719 death.

Burial: Date: 18 Oct 1697

Individual Note:
There is a death for Thomas Holland in both 1697 and 1719. Howeverthis could have been either Thomas ap Owen or Thomas ap Robert of Pennant. As Humphrey went on to take over Bryn Y Fran it seems probable that Thomas predeceased him, and as Humphrey died in 1711 we can conclude that Thomas ap Owen died in 1697 and Thomas ap Robert of Pennant in 1719.
