Individual Note:
     Born at Kinsale 1765; entered the 10th Regiment as Ensign 24th October1782 ; became Lieutenant on 5th March 1788 ; joined the 3rd Regiment(Buffs) 14th April 1804; obtained his majority 1st January 1805 ; and,retiring on full pay
18th August 1820, resided at Hartly Court, County Berks. On 8thJanuary 1796 he married at Lisburn his first cousin, Anne, daughter ofCaptain William Smythe, son of the Venerable James Smythe, Archdeaconof Meath, by bis wife, Catherine Vesey, daughter of the Archbishop ofTuam. Major Stewart died at Brighton 7th May 1837, aged seventy-two.
His wife died there also 2nd July 1828, aged fifty-two years, and amemorial tablet to their memory is in St. Mary's Church, Brighton.

     Augusta Jane Stoddart married Captain David Holland Erskine, son ofSir David Erskine, 1st Bt. and Jane Silence Williams, on 23 December1856. She died in 1896. Her married name became Erskine.
